Under each picture you get a brief description of what it is and some of the things you need to know about that style of cutting board. But i have also linked the pictures to a similar cutting board tutorial on YouTube because sometimes you just have to see the process to understand it.
This is a picture of an edge grain cutting board with an inlay. Ignore the name in the middle. These are easy to make and beautiful. This one was made by gluing seven pieces of wood together. From the top toward the middle the woods are padauk, cherry, walnut and maple in the center. A cutting board like this can be complete in about four hours over two days.
An end grain cutting board takes a little more time than an edge grain. He explains why in the tutorial. You have a lot of options with this kind of cutting board. You can make it out of just one kind of wood like the one pictured here or out of multiple colors of wood like the one he does in the video.
Live edge cutting boards are the easiest and fastest to make. You can knock one of these out in a couple of hours. A common mistake people make is that they think they want to leave the bark on, you don't. These are so easy to make it was actually hard to find a good video showing the process. But I did my best.
These are the most complex of the cutting boards. They take several days to make. But most of that time is waiting for glue to dry. You work for about an hour at a time but it is spread out over 5-6 days. The good news is they are not hard to make and they look amazing. Sorry that the video is a little long.
Threw the wonder of modern technology inlays on a cutting board are actually much easier than you would think. I use a CNC that carves a recess in the cutting board and cuts a matching plug from a contrasting piece of wood and then we glue them together. Fine lines are hard but the results are impressive.
Charcuterie boards are the serving boards used for meats and cheese at parties. There are a lot of styles you can choose from. I like the simple live edge style you see here. But really they can take any form you want. We can also engrave an inlay in them.
The cutting boards and charcuterie boards are just a suggestion. Feel free to bring other ideas to the table. We have made little things like dear antler mounts and big things like tables. As long as you learn, enjoy, and don't get hurt we're good.
